Underwater Series

This period lasted form 1986 to 1992. These were my first incursions in oils, so I believed that this was my own self taught practice. I chose a subject I love, the ocean, and I used to teach myself all the techniques I use in my work. I have on occasion done several larger and more intricate renditions of these pieces over the course of the 90’s and I still have a new one in the making. I had several years of snorkeling and explorations in the tropical reefs of Micronesia. This became a devotional practice, which I did daily. Never imagined then, that I would one day become a painter, I made no sketches of these luminous beings that I saw. In my studio, years later and far away from the tropics, these memories emerged as very dreamy, sensua,l and surreal. I entitled these series: “From the Dreamy Waters of the Ocean’s Womb”
