"Guacamayos"

from 30.00

This version is digitally enhanced from a hand silk-screened one I had printed earlier. It was inspired by ancient weavings form the Wira Cocha. This I found in a Limited Edition book from the Reference at UC Berkeley. It was a book dedicated to Mesoamerican weavings, and it had large pages with hundreds of designs from that era from the Inca and the Maya. I no longer have the info on that book, but a few Xerox copies of enlargements of some fragments. I learned that many of their spiritual beliefs were recorded in these ways.

I found this bird to be a particularly whimsical one and I chose it to design this Mandala in honor of the parrots which are common birds that adorn the forest of South America. The colors of this shield are mimicking the coloration of the feathers which range form red to green. This was also one of my first explorations with digital media.
