"Birthing Goddess"

The Birthing Goddess was inspired by a Mesoamerican cave relief, presumed to have marked a ritual birthing cave, a sacred place where new life entered the world. In her I honor the ancient power of woman as the great threshold, the doorway through which all of us arrive. I adorned her with the phases of the moon, that eternal rhythm of swelling and release that moves through every woman's body, and surrounded her with a native design of ocean waves, the primal waters from which all life is born.

This image was originally created as a hand-pulled silk-screen serigraph in the late 1980s. The original edition is no longer available, and it is now offered as a fine art print reproduction.
